It is as simple as that. It is greed. It is consumption. It is trying to be like Mr and Mrs Jones. It is trying to be like everyone else. It is having the latest car, smart phone, computer, clothing etc. That is stopping you.
Why? Is it society? Is it marketing? Is it the advertising that is following you all over the internet? Step back and watch those adverts follow you from site to site, device to device. It happens. That is temptation right there. You must buy it! You need it! Your life is rubbish without this!
Nope. It’s all rubbish. It’s worthless.
Imagine a life threatening illness. The latest smart phone won’t give you a loving hug. Your mother, father, brother, sister, wife, husband, son, daughter (etc) or friend would gI’ve you that hug. A brand new car won’t bring you a glass of water in the middle of the night. A person, another living being would. Cost: Free.
Life is NOT about material possessions. Life is NOT about the latest X.
We don’t need everything we think we need. How many shoes have you got in the porch? How many old (perfectly usable) mobile phones have got in your home? “It’s not usable because of the software upgrade” – Then don’t upgrade it. Wait 30, 60, 90 days!
I stopped. I stopped the bleeding. This phone is old. It looks brand new. It functions beautifully. The key. I purchased a protective case day 1. And I ignore the update. In turn I’m spending less, consuming less, helping the environment and creating less personal debt. Because of small changes like this I’m saving money. Not just on the phone, on the contract, on the magazine subscription; everything in my life. Small baby steps.
I’m living life with less. I’m living on less than I earn.
